So glad to know I'm not the only weirdo who is moved to tears by high school marching bands. (I have no previous history as a band geek.) Thank you for curating this playlist.

in tears over this! I was never in band but my kids are (here in southern Missouri!) and I am thankful for it every day! I hope this platform allows me to share a link so you can see how these band kids use social media in the most fun and wholesome way! https://www.instagram.com/reel/C63-t-9udgO/?igsh=YTRqMTJsbGluY2dj

This is so good. Wait til Hank is in MS and HS - my kid isn't even in Band (started flute in MS but then pandemic learning took the will to practice out of her, can you even imagine being that band teacher over Zoom?!?!) but I go to every band performance at her High School and cry my whole way through. The earnestness, the care, the effort, the teacher working so hard, the group dynamics - just, tears.

You had a Gemeinhardt?! I had a Miyazawa! Yep, Flute nerds represent! I borrowed a piccolo, never could afford one of my own. My parents paid for half - I had to pay for the other half - I saved up by busking. Concert band, (which included marching for things like Anzac Day) jazz band, orchestra, the lot! Our school band was 6 people. American marching bands are a whole other wild thing to me, (I’m Australian) and I adore seeing them, so thank you. It’s 40 years since I graduated from High School. I miss Bands. I’ve joined a town Concert Bands over the years, but my flute needs a service, which I currently can’t afford. Maybe one day. I’m about to dig out my ukulele again, so that’s something.

oh heck yeah, I LUSTED after the gold-plated mouth piece Gemeinhardt! Piccolos are WILD beasts too. I love that you busked...much better than cleaning toilets at an elementary school :) Go get the ukulele! Music is the best <3 thank you for your comment :)

Kate! My fellow flute player! I LOVED my band class in middle school and also still keep my flute (a hand-me-down from my mom) in my studio/office.

I am an "Instructional Coach" at a K-8 school and joke with my team that I got my start tell my friends what to do, as a Drum Major in High school! The Band Room was also my "go to place" and Mr. Whitman was the ultimate "cool" but strict teacher, who could yell at you one minute and make you feel like the top of the world the next. Alas my drum major's Mace and trombone sit in the garage unused since 1980... but likewise, I can never get rid of them...
