It’s 9:46 on the evening of January 31st, 2021. Will I get this sent before Feb 1st? Will I keep this resolution? Or will I get distracted by that unfinished episode of Euphoria that I started last night, but turned off because I got very very sleepy? It’s a race against the clock!
A few housekeeping items for this first newsletter of 2022.
I don’t have a new mix for you to share, but I have liked a BUNCH of songs and have the starts of quite a few mixes that hopefully I will be sharing in upcoming newsletters. I am taking my own advice and just sending this sucker even if all of the conditions are not perfect (ie: a cute drawing and a music mix to share). It’s okay! Perfect is the enemy of hitting send!
My 2022 KBB Mail Club is still open! I am working on assembling the November/December 2021 issue and am hoping to print it this weekend. Hank took an epic 2.5 hour nap in the parking lot of Target yesterday afternoon and I happily had my laptop with me, so some quality time was spent getting this issue closer to print.
Two recent interviews for 2022 were released and I like them! First up is Did I Do That? a podcast where I dive sort of deep into making my first zine and organizing my first event and how I was the designer for my school’s literary journal and basically made the cover art look like a bootleg Belle and Sebastian CD. My colleague and co-teacher and all around buddy Sean Schumacher is the host of this new podcast about making design and making mistakes and if you enjoy this episode, go check out the other ones. He’s a natural interviewer and I have had the pleasure of working alongside him for years. Along with teaching together, he is also my event partner for all things PSUGD. I am proud of how hard he is working on this podcast and it was an honor to be a guest. Go check out Did I Do That??
The second one was conducted over a few zooms with the lovely Loré Yessuf for The Creative Independent. This one actually brought a bunch of new subscribers to this newsletter, and a bit of fire to send this out so I can keep my dang resolution! Loré was so wonderful to talk with and she really put me at ease over our two zoom conversations. She got me going on education tangents and she forced a lot of good reflection on my 20 years or so of organizing events and making work. I really enjoyed how the piece turned out and a big thanks to Loré for reaching out and making it happen! The Creative Independent has a ton of good stuff on it too. Their GUIDE section is one that I share with my students over and over again. Honored to be part!In Outlet news, Leland is now my official business partner! Really pleased and proud at what we have built over the last few years and especially proud of the work and growth that has happened since the pandemic started. Our goal for 2022 is to print more of OUR work and slowly start developing an Outlet line of paper products. Another goal was to list all of the riso workshops for 2022 and it happened! We have all of our in-person and online riso basics workshops listed. Of course we will be adding other events for 2022, but these are the workshops. Plan a trip! Come and see us! Let’s print!
Okay, It’s 11:22. I just finished episode 4 of Euphoria and I am going to hit send on this and celebrate with a Somebody, Somewhere episode and a bowl of Honey-Nut Cheerios.
Don’t let anyone tell you that I don’t know how to party.
